America Recycles Day – November 15th

Have you heard of America Recycles Day? Since 1997, people across the country have come together every November 15th to celebrate America Recycles Day (ARD), the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products.

Established by the National Recycling Coalition and managed by the non-profit Keep America Beautiful, the purpose of America Recycles Day is to promote the social, environmental and economic benefits of recycling and to encourage more people to take the pledge and join the movement to conserve natural resources and improve our environment. By conserving and reusing the Earth’s natural resources, we save landfill space and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. More importantly, we ensure that these natural resources will be around for future generations.CBP1054548

Here are a few interesting recycling facts:

  • Recycling a single aluminum can saves enough energy to power a television for 4 hours.
  • Americans recycled enough plastic bottles in 2011 to provide the new raw material needed to produce 7 million extra large t-shirts
  • Producing steel cans from recycled material saves about 67% of the energy needed to produce them from raw material.

Visit the America Recycles Day website to learn more about recycling, hosting an America Recycles Day event, and also take the #BeRecycled pledge to recycle more, and encourage others to take the pledge.
