Sycamore Canyon School

SycamoreCanyonSycamore Canyon School has been recycling for quite some time. The school even has a Recycling Club!

Before the CVUSD Recycles program provided equipment to the school, the Recycling Club had decorated several containers to collect cans and bottles during the middle school lunch period. The school received additional recycling equipment through the CVUSD Recycles program that has enabled them to expand their recycling efforts. This includes several containers for common areas, to augment the Recycling Club’s containers, and smaller containers for inside each of the school’s classrooms.

Members of the Recycling Club are responsible for emptying the containers that collect cans and bottles every Friday. Other recyclables – mostly paper – are collected from classrooms approximately every two weeks. All recyclable materials are placed in a separate dumpster designated specifically for recycling. The District’s waste service provider, Waste Management, empties the recycling dumpster free of charge. So, the more Sycamore Canyon School recycles, the more money they can save the District on waste disposal fees!

Sycamore Canyon School was one of nine CVUSD schools where staff from the CVUSD Recycles program conducted a waste audit. The audit determined that the school has the potential to raise over $3,500 per year by collecting and redeeming CRV items. Results from the waste audits can be viewed on the CVUSD Recycles Waste Audits page.
